Obey Traffic Laws

As a cyclist, you have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers on the road. Obey all traffic signals, stop signs, and ride in the direction of traffic flow. Use the rightmost lane or bike lane when available.

Be Predictable

Make your intentions clear to everyone around you. Ride in a straight line, avoid swerving between parked cars, and use hand signals before turning or changing lanes. Check over your shoulder frequently.

Stay Visible

Increase your conspicuity by wearing bright, reflective clothing. Use front and rear lights, especially when visibility is low. Make eye contact with drivers and pedestrians. Avoid riding on sidewalks when possible.

Think Ahead

Anticipate the actions of others by scanning the road ahead. Watch for turning vehicles, open car doors, debris, potholes and other hazards. Cross railroad tracks at right angles.

Ride Prepared

Ensure your bike is ready to roll by checking tires, brakes, chain, and quick releases before each ride. Carry basic tools, spare tube, and supplies. Most importantly, always wear a properly fitted helmet.
